Xcountry Skiing

Cross country skiing (x/c skiing) was practised on the mining exploration trails at the base of North Star Mountain for decades before the first specific nordic trail, Centennial, was constructed in 1967. The Kimberley Nordic trail system trail network now consists of a variety of double track set trails of varying degrees of difficulty and length, complete with centre skating lanes. There are also a variety of single track set secondary trails and a 3.3 kilometer lit loop for night skiing.

These are located within walking distance of all of our accommodations. The main circuit is floodlit every night from Dusk to 10pm so if you haven't had enough during the day on the mountain, you can expend excess energy on the Xcountry trails into the night. Why not ski some of the trails by moonlight, a truly awesome experience. There is a small fee to be paid at the Trail Head. Check out The Kimberley Nordic Club's website for greater detail.

Rails to Trails is an ongoing project converting the old railroad tracks from Kimberley to Cranbrook in a $1.8M, 25Km Urban Trail Link make-over. This winter you will be able to enjoy this awesome project on your xcountry skis!
